Penny Hand Knit Monster

  • Penny loves giggles, sunny days and tea parties.
  • She comes in two color combinations: light pink with mint blue accents or mint blue with purple accents.
  • Handknit with love by a mama also plants rice in the rice terraces (take a look at the P20 bill to see what they look like).
  • Each monster comes with a woven bag, a tag and a note about each monster’s personality—ready for gifting!
  • In the Ifugao region, amidst the rice terraces, a group of women are industriously knitting. They were taught by Meredith Ramirez Talusan and Anna Maltz, as part of Ricefield Collective which began as a way to sustain the way of life of farmers who tend to the rice terraces in the Philippines. As part of the collective, these women knit hats, cowls, scarves and other high quality accessories. The income from these endeavours helped provide a fulfilling means for them to stay on their ancestral land. However, because of sustainability issues, Ricefield Collective suspended operations in September 2014.
  • Two friends and avid knitters, Candy Reyes-Alipio and Aueeie M. Suarez, have taken their love for the craft and continued what Ricefield Collective had began. They spent a week in the village in late October 2014, refreshing the ladies’ knitting skills and teaching them new patterns. The first collection are hand knit monsters, designed by Rebecca Danger, that have captured the hearts of the knitters who made them and everyone else who want to adopt them and take them home.
